Why take care of the liver?

One of the most important organs is the liver, and we must be aware of this and therefore we must take care of it.

The liver performs vital functions, so keeping it healthy is essential.

It is one of the organs of the digestive system whose main function is to metabolize and store the nutrients from the digestion of food. In addition to this, it also favors the production of energy and proteins, is responsible for eliminating toxins from the body and producing bile.

Among the most important functions, we have the following:

1) Glucose metabolism, storage and release:

The liver is responsible for processing glucose from the metabolism of carbohydrates at the intestinal level, this in order to produce the energy necessary for the maintenance of the body's functions. Likewise, excess glucose is stored in this organ in the form of glycogen, so it helps regulate blood sugar and serves as a reserve in case the body needs it, releasing it into the blood to maintain glycemia, such as An example can occur in a high-impact sports activity.

2) Helps in the digestion of fats:

Participates in the digestion of fats and fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) from food, because it is responsible for the production of bile, a substance that is stored in the gallbladder and is released to the intestine in the presence of fats to facilitate its digestion and absorption.

In addition to this, the bile is also responsible for eliminating excess cholesterol from the body and some toxic substances, and due to its yellow-green color, it gives the characteristic color to the stool.

3) Protein production:

It is also responsible for regulating the metabolism of amino acids and proteins, producing substances such as albumin, the main blood protein and one of the most abundant in the body, which is responsible for regulating blood volume, distributing fluids from the body and from transporting various substances through the blood, such as bilirubin, hormones, vitamins, enzymes, metals, ions, and some medications.

Other proteins that are produced by this organ are transferrin, which is responsible for transporting iron and storing it in the form of ferritin to be used by red blood cells and by bone marrow for the production of erythrocytes, and fibrinogen, important for coagulation. blood.

4) Elimination of toxins:

The liver plays an important role in protecting the body against toxic substances such as alcohol, as it has the ability to filter the blood, removing toxins that are sent to the kidneys and eliminated through the urine.

5) Production of cholesterol:

It produces cholesterol from high-fat foods, which are then carried in the blood by molecules called lipoproteins, such as LDL and HDL.

Cholesterol is necessary for the normal functioning of the body, participating in the production of vitamin D and hormones such as testosterone and estrogen, and for the production of bile acids that dissolve fat, in addition to being present in the membrane of all cells of the body.

6) Storage of vitamins and minerals:

The liver stores vitamins A, B12, D, E, and K, which are absorbed through food and distributed throughout the body through the bloodstream. These vitamins are important for the growth and development of skin tissue, to improve eye health, strengthen the immune system, and strengthen bones and teeth.

Some minerals, such as iron and copper, are also stored in the liver and are essential for different chemical reactions in the body, including: the production of energy, which maintains the function of cells; the synthesis of proteins, such as collagen and elastin; prevention in the formation of free radicals; and for the formation of proteins in the liver.

7) Destruction of red blood cells:

The liver is constantly involved in the destruction of red blood cells, also called erythrocytes, which live for an average of 120 days.

When these cells are old or abnormal, the liver digests the red blood cells and releases the iron contained in those cells into the bloodstream, so that the bone marrow is responsible for producing more red blood cells.

8) Regulation of blood coagulation:

The liver participates in the regulation of blood clotting, increasing the absorption of vitamin K through the production of bile, in addition to storing this vitamin in its cells, which is essential for the activation of platelets that promote blood clotting.

9) Transformation of ammonium into urea:

The liver converts ammonia, which comes from the metabolism of dietary proteins, and which is toxic to the body into urea, which allows this substance to be eliminated through the urine.

10) Drug metabolism:

The liver is the main organ that metabolizes medicines, alcohol and drugs, since it produces enzymes that degrade and inactivate these substances, favoring their elimination through urine or feces.

This liver function is important to prevent intoxication by these types of substances, but it can also be important to activate certain medications, such as omeprazole or capecitabine, which need to be metabolized by the liver to exert their effect.

11) Destruction of microorganisms:

The liver has defense cells, called Kupffer cells, which are capable of destroying microorganisms such as viruses or bacteria that can enter the liver through the intestine and cause disease.

Furthermore, these cells also have the ability to resist infection by creating immune factors and eliminating bacteria from the bloodstream.

As you will see, it is not an organ that we must put aside, and therefore we must take care of it.

Consume vegetables, greens and fruits (with little sugar), this is imperative since they not only have vitamins, minerals, etc. If not, they provide a high fiber content to the body that helps against constipation.

Eat whole grains and legumes.

Consume enough water, not only to stay hydrated but also to eliminate toxins through urine and sweat.

Performing physical activity allows us to have a healthy weight, it also allows us the proper functioning of the different systems of the body.

Rest, hours of sufficient and restful sleep are necessary to gain health.

6) Avoid processed foods, excess alcohol and fat, it would be the ideal scene for this organ, I know that in the world where we live this is almost impossible on some occasions, but I know that they can try to consume a greater amount of natural food products . Direct your daily eating effort towards a healthy lifestyle.

7) Take at least once a month three detox days to purify your liver and in some way your body in general.

How do we do this detoxification?

Here are my recommendations: (remember that it is only three days)

Citrus: They are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, perfect for cleaning the liver. We highlight, above all, grapefruit and lemon. A juice a day of either of these two citrus fruits can help you cleanse the liver in a faster way.

Spinach and Swiss Chard Salads: These green leafy vegetables absorb toxins from the blood. In addition, they protect the liver from certain elements such as pesticides and heavy metals.

Avocado: It is one of the good foods for the liver. It provides large amounts of glutathione, an element very present in liver cleansing. Taking this food regularly will help your body eliminate toxins.

Carrot and beets: These two vegetables help liver function to eliminate toxins and waste from the liver. They are rich in vitamins and minerals.

Artichokes: They are a powerful source of silymarin, an antioxidant that helps detoxify the liver and cleanse it.

Broccoli and cauliflower, rich in sulfur, are perfect to help cleanse the liver. They help to increase the production of enzymes and, in addition, to eliminate carcinogenic substances.

The apple: Provide enough fiber and help our intestinal transit, it also favors the cleansing of the liver. This is because it is high in antioxidants.

Asparagus: Vegetable that helps eliminate toxins from our body through urine. It is a food rich in water and sulfur that helps a lot in cleaning the liver and purifies waste.

Drink two liters of water daily.

Eliminate refined carbohydrates and sugars these three days. Also lower the intake of your daily diet when you are not detoxing.

I always recommend nutritional supplements based on higher plants or adaptogenic plants. In particular, this formula is from my day to day, its name Hepaforte, a natural herbal formula without side effects, which protects our liver from aggressive agents.

It is a hepatoprotective and regenerative liver with anti-hepatitis action. This formula is used for liver cirrhosis, cholesterol, triglycerides, all types of liver disease, it is of great help in liver cancer, pancreas and as a liver protector in chemotherapy.

In many cases it can reverse liver cirrhosis. It is convenient to use it to protect the liver when taking synthetic drugs with high liver toxicity; that is, in most cases pharmaceutical products are taken. In this way, drug cirrhosis is avoided and prevented.
